General Las Vegas Information
1) Las Vegas Transportation Options
There are several options available for your transportation needs during your stay in Las Vegas.
I. Public Transportation
Buses are available 24 hours a day, both on and off The Strip. At McCarran International Airport, you may get on a bus at the lower level of Terminal 1. 24-Hour All-Access Passes for The Strip's double decker Deuce bus and residential routes are available for $7 per person. Routes and schedules may change.
II. Shuttle Service
Shuttle service is available seven days a week outside of baggage claim at McCarran International Airport and at many locations throughout Las Vegas. One way or round trip fees will vary by location, number of people in your party.
Companies offering shuttle service in Vegas include Executive Las Vegas, Ambassador/Ritz, Bell Trans, and more. Sedan or limo service may also be available at increased rates.
III. Rental Car
Rental cars offer an alternative to long commutes and expensive cab fares. Every major casino/resort in Las Vegas also offers free parking. A wide variety of rental cars, from smaller economy cars to large luxury vehicles, are available at rental car locations within McCarran International Airport and at many rental car locations throughout Vegas. Avis Rent A Car, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Hertz Car Rental are some of the companies offering rental car service.
IV. Taxi Service
There are hundreds of taxis available throughout Las Vegas 24 hours a day. Regardless of the taxi service you choose, rates have been standardized between all companies operating locally. You will be charged $.20 per one-twelfth of a mile or $2.40 per mile in addition to other fees. Most taxi drivers will not accept credit cards as a valid form of payment.
2) Pharmacies and Hospitals
I. Pharmacies
CVS Pharmacy is centrally located on the Las Vegas Strip, next to Monte Carlo and across from MGM Grand. CVS offers a wide variety of sundries, over-the-counter drugs and pre ion medication.
II. Hospitals
Sunrise Hospital is located approximately 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) from The Strip. Other hospitals within a 5-mile (8-kilometer) radius of The Strip include Desert Springs Hospital, Spring Valley Hospital, Valley Hospital, and University Medical Center.
3) Superstores and Grocery Stores
If you need groceries or other household items during your stay in Las Vegas, there are many options to choose from. Wal-Mart has two locations within roughly a 5-mile (8-kilometer) radius of The Strip. Other national superstores with locations throughout Las Vegas include Target and Kmart. Well-known grocery stores located within roughly a 5-mile (8-kilometer) radius of The Strip include Smith's Food and Drug Center, Albertson's and Von's Grocery.
4) Hoover Dam Information
Hoover Dam, located in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River bordering Arizona and Nevada, is 30 miles (48 kilometers) southeast of Las Vegas. Completed in 1936, Hoover Dam was once the world's largest electric-power station and the world's largest concrete structure. The Hoover Dam Visitor Center, Hoover Dam Tour and power plant tour are available individually at varying fees.
5) Lake Mead Recreational Area Information
The Lake Mead Recreational Area is approximately 30 miles (48 kilometers) southeast of Las Vegas and includes over 1.5 million acres of land. Lakes Mead and Mohave are also located within the Lake Mead Recreational Area. There are varying fees required for entry into the park.
6) Red Rock Canyon Information
Red Rock Canyon is located approximately 17 miles (27.36 kilometers) west of The Strip. This 197,000-acre Mojave Desert conservation area showcases many large red sandstone peaks and walls known as the Keystone Thrust. A 13-mile (21-kilometer) one-way loop road provides access to most of the landmarks within the area. Varying fees are also required to enter the area.
7) Valley of Fire Information
Located approximately 55 miles (88.5 kilometers) northeast of Las Vegas, Valley of Fire State Park is Nevada's oldest and largest state park. The valley's name comes from the many red sandstone formations found throughout the park. The Valley of Fire also has one of the most extreme climates in North America, with temperatures soaring well above 100 degrees during summer. There are varying fees for both entering the park and camping overnight.
8) Grand Canyon Information
The Grand Canyon, located in the northwest corner of Arizona near the borders of Utah and Nevada, is one of the first national parks in the United States. This massive 277-mile-long (446 kilometer) canyon separates Grand Canyon National Park into south and north rims. Most visitors travel southeast approximately 278 miles (447 kilometers) from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon south rim access point in Arizona. Entrance fees vary within Grand Canyon national park.
If you do not want to drive to the Grand Canyon you also have the option of taking a bus tour, helicopter tour or airplane tour. There are several companies within Las Vegas offering these tours including Las Vegas Grand Canyon Tours, All Grand Canyon Tours, and more.
9) LA/Disneyland Overview
The world-famous Disneyland and Los Angeles is approximately 280 miles (450 kilometers) from Las Vegas and can be reached via automobile, depending on traffic conditions.
10) Las Vegas Tipping Guidelines
There is no law that requires tipping in Las Vegas, but it is generally considered a good way to show your appreciation for attentive and courteous service. Many workers in the Vegas service industry earn most of their wages from tips. Below are some suggested tipping guidelines you may consider during your stay in Vegas, although you may want to pay more or less depending on the quality of service you receive.

Taxi Driver: 15% of fare or $1 - $2 Airport Luggage Handler: $1 per bag Curbside Check-In: $1 per bag Valet Attendant: $1 - $2 upon car return
Hotel Tipping

11) Currency Exchange Information
Virtually every casino in Las Vegas can exchange foreign currency to American dollars. The amount that can be converted free of charge may vary by property. There may also be restrictions on what currencies may be converted and exchange rates fluctuate daily.
12) Valet Parking
If you're driving a rental car during your stay in Las Vegas, you can take advantage of free valet parking service, available near the main entrance to virtually every major hotel and casino on The Strip. This can save time that would otherwise be spent searching for a parking spot. A valet attendant will greet you, take your keys and park your vehicle in a special valet lot while you go about your business. When you need to retrieve your vehicle later, you simply return to the valet area where you dropped it off. Many guests typically tip valet attendants anywhere from $1 - $2 or more when they return for their vehicles.
13) Laundry Service
Same- or next-day laundry and dry cleaning service is typically provided by Las Vegas casino resorts. For more information, call your resort's Bell Desk during your stay.
